Manny Pacquiao's 15M punches in 15 years

"... piptin-milyun-punchis-aku-in-piptin-yirs!"

I was watching TV today with my lola and we were tuned to some noon time show on channel 2, then the show went into a commercial break and ran a batch of tv ads. Then there was this Manny Pacquiao tv ad where it says that he has thrown 15 MILLION punches in his 15 years in boxing, I said... WHAT THE FUCK?!?! So i did some computations...

60 seconds x 60 minutes x 24 hours x 365 days x 15 years = 473,040,000.00 seconds

473,040,000.00 seconds/ 15,000,000.00 punches = 31.536 seconds/punch

So there you have it, on the average Manny Pacquiao throws a punch every 31.536 seconds in the last 15 years. While eating, while sleeping, while having sex, while taking a dump, while picking his nose... EVERY 31.356 seconds...

What a croc-shit advertisement that was... Or maybe Manny Pacquiao is just inhuman... But who the fuck cares? The dumb assed "masses" will believe everything the media says about Manny Pacquiao, even if Karen Davila reports that Manny Paquiao travelled back in time and has slain 100 Velociraptors with his barehands while his balls clamped with 10-foot titanium-alligator clips with 10,000 volts they will surely treat Manny Pacquiao as a God...

MANNY PACQUIAO FOR PRESIDENT!!! WOOT!

update: while on a bus on my way to the office i have watched the Pacquiao ad again via the onboard TV (believe me, "kapuso" lahat ng mga bus) and instead of 15M punches, the commercial was saying that he had thrown 16M punches (OMG he's more awesome than i have previously thought!) for his 15 years in boxing, so we have to update the computation...

473,040,000 seconds/ 16,000,000 punches = 29.565 seconds/punch

MANNY PACQUIAO FOR SUPREME RULER OF THE GALAXY!

4 Comments:

  • 1 day of punching...
    60 secs in 60 mins in 24 hours =
    84000 secs / (31 sec/punch) =
    2787 punches

Now how long would that take using
a speed ball at 3 punches per sec?
    3 punches per sec * 15 mins * 60 sec? = 2700 punches...

The question would be how long does manny pacquio train everyday?

An above average person doing 10kms of weekly of running will roughly produce 1 million steps in a year... How many would a professional take? Probably much much more...

i was riding the bus earlier today and it wasnt 15M punches but 16M instead,

473,040,000 seconds/ 16,000,000 punches = on the average, 29.565 seconds/ punch for the last 15 years. manny has to throw 2922 punches/ day, everyday for 15 years to get 16M.

    FACTS:
manny doesnt train everyday, and only trains some 2-3 months before the actual fight, and he has some 2-3 fights per year, (this of course doesnt apply when he was still an amateur)

he has a wife and 2 kids, and we all know that he spends time with them.

manny makes a lot of endorsements, and advertisments(esp nowadays) and travels a lot.

during training and practice, he doesnt throw punches all the time, and he has to drink, pee, sleep, eat, etc, etc, aside from jogging, calisthenics, stretching, etc.

no one can sustain on making several thousand punches per day (goal is 2922 /day), if there was indeed someone who can then he should eat/ sleep/ rest/ pee sometime, his whole life should only revolve around boxing and manny isnt like that.

consider the # of days lost because of doing non-boxing-related stuff then he has to make it up for the lost time and has to throw additional punches. but by doing additional punches he has to burn more energy and to sustain that he has to eat more and rest more again losing time.

and your parallelism on walking and punching is not valid, because we have the figures of manny's punching for the past 15 years, not on someone else's walking

  • 15 million punches in 15 years is the same as one million punches per year. That is only 114 punches per hour. Let us say he trains on average four hours a day, he needs to punch at a rate of 684 punches per hour. Not entirely impossible for a professional boxer.
